A New Season Blooms

Hey there! Welcome to Spring 2014! I am SO ready for more sunshine!

Image

How did you do with your “technique” photos the past few days?! I know I definitely learned something about myself and my photography. I want to rant about what I learned for just a second…

Apparently, I’m great at taking pictures from low angles, and at eye level. But the prompt for yesterday, “From a high angle”…. yikes. I found myself walking around searching for something to capture from below, while I stood on a chair or something. I was at a loss and stumped. I had a really hard time with it, so I went back to check out my archives and look at all the photos I’ve taken so far… what I found was pretty interesting. I’m great at getting down on the ground… or down to a child’s level, when snapping their portraits. But I rarely shoot from a higher angle! This is something I definitely plan to work on, because different angles are so important and can make such a difference in a photograph. See! This photo challenge is good practice AND can teach us a thing or two! It pushed my creativity and forced me to see where I’m falling short. So now I can get out there an practice on shooting from higher angles!

Ok, my little revelation is over now… onto the photos…

First up: “From a Low Angle”… There is moss and grass starting to grow by our front yard tree, and I decided to get down low and capture it:

Next was the hard one for me, “From a High Angle”… Because I stumped myself here, I decided to use a recycled photo, from a photo shoot I did with a great friend of mine and her baby love:

Aaaand last but not least, today’s theme was “Depth of Field”… for this photo, my friends, just scroll right back up to the top! The very first picture of the budding flowers was captured in my front yard this evening, and the depth of field turned out perfect for today’s theme!

There you have it! Different techniques and different angles will always create different feeling in a photo. Don’t be afraid to experiment with them! I definitely have some high angle practice in my future! What about you? Did you have trouble with any of these prompts? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Friday Eve!

Happy St. Patty’s Day

“Wherever you go and whatever you do,

May the luck of the Irish be there with you.”

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! I invested in green shirts, JUST for this holiday. I’m not a fan of random people pinching me and laughing about it. Hopefully you wore your green, and avoided it too!

Time for more photos! To start where I left off, March 15th was water. Icicles probably should not exist in March, but this winter is just never ending…

Image

March 16th was “Your Favorite Color”. We went from icicles, to a 70 degree BBQ, where my cousin mixed up a pink drink for me…

And finally, today’s prompt was (of course) “Green”:

Over the next few days, the prompts are geared towards different angles and techniques. Up first tomorrow is “Low Angle”. Be on the look out for things you can capture from down low. Don’t be afraid to get down on the floor, and shoot upwards. Let’s see what we can capture!

March Photo Challenge Continues…

Happy Friday everyone!

Is it just me, or do Fridays always feel like a breath of fresh air? Like you’ve been holding your breath since Monday morning, and now you can let it out. I’m being dramatic, I know, but this week was just one of those crazy ones! Since I’m such a slacker and haven’t posted my photos for the last few days, let me catch up…

March 11th was “Book”…

Image

March 12th was “music”… Please don’t judge my busted iPhone 😒

Image

Mach 13th was “night”…

Image

And today’s prompt was “your shoes”… I grabbed a quick snap of my shoes while darting out the door back to work…

Image

I’ll work on being less of a slacker and posting every day. The day job keeps me crazy busy. I dream of the day when I can blog and snap pictures for a living… maybe one day! 😀

How are your photos coming along this month? Let’s see them! Just hashtag #Lmphoto365 wherever you post and have fun with it!

Self Portrait & Sun Flare

Whew! I don’t know about you, but I am glad Monday is over! I spoil myself for 2 whole days every weekend by sleeping in, and relaxing. Then Monday morning comes, and it’s always rough. At least the sun is up later now! More vitamin D = happiness.

Now for the photos… yesterday’s prompt was “self portrait”. Since I didn’t have makeup on yesterday, I just snapped a quick selfie with my bff camera. Yes, I care about my appearance… don’t judge. 😉

Image

Aaaand then today, our prompt was “sun flare”. This one is fun. A few quick tips for capturing this effect: Use a larger aperture (smaller F stop number) or just a tad bit longer shutter speed. Sun flare is caused by light entering your lens, and scattering before it reaches the camera’s sensor. If the scenery is right, it can be an awesome creative effect. If you want more of a “star burst” effect, choose a smaller aperture (higher F stop number). Just some quick tips I’ve picked up along the way!

My hubby let me snap his picture for the sake of our lens flare theme today…

And that’s all for today folks! Tomorrow’s prompt is “Book”. How creative can we get with it?! Don’t forget to hashtag #Lmphoto365 when sharing your photos! It’s The Bachelor finale tonight, and I’m stoked to see what happens! 😀

Hands, Coffee and Sparkle

Such a random group of themes! But since I have not posted the past 2 days, I have to catch up! March 6th was hands…

March 7th was coffee…

And today, the 8th, was sparkle or blur…

How are your photos for the month coming along? If you fall behind, don’t worry, just play catch up, like I did here. There are no rules, and this is about having fun with our photography and being creative!

Patterns and Texture

Today’s theme: Textures and patterns. My first thought goes to a brick wall of a building. I would have loved to use that and experiment with it for this post, but unfortunately… the 9-5 gets in the way, and I don’t have any brick buildings near my house. So, I had to make do with what I could find!

The first photo is part of a picture frame, the second is a small candle holder (love that pattern!)

I’m looking forward to seeing those different textures and patterns that you find today! Don’t forget to hashtag your photos #Lmphoto365 and check out the daily prompts here for tomorrow’s theme!

Happy snapping!

Window to the World

I’m loving these daily photo prompts, and the fact that we can get creative with them. Today’s prompt was “window”. With today’s dreary, cold, cloudy, gloomy weather, I wanted to capture that light coming through the blinds on the window…

Image

I’m working more on trying different perspectives lately. Angles can make all the difference in the world, and sometimes when we’re just starting out, we get excited and just start snapping away. We often snap from eye level, straight on, and forget to walk around… get low on the ground… get higher up, looking down. I’ll be practicing this more in my photography. What about you? What techniques do you find most helpful?

And what does your window look like?! I can’t wait to see! #Lmphoto365
